Tests from Allah are not punishments—they are signs of His love and a way to elevate your rank in this world and the Hereafter. Allah says in the Qur’an:

“Do the people think that they will be left to say, ‘We believe’ and they will not be tested?”
(Surah Al-Ankabut 29:2)

In this blog, we’ll explore 10 powerful signs that you’re being tested by Allah ﷻ—and how to pass those tests with patience and faith.

1. Sudden Hardships in Life

Whether it's loss of wealth, relationships, or peace of mind—when life suddenly becomes difficult, it's a sign of being tested. The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The magnitude of the reward goes along with the magnitude of the trial.”
(Tirmidhi, 2396)

How to pass: Remain grateful and patient. Say “Alhamdulillah” in every circumstance.

2. You Feel Spiritually Distant

When you feel disconnected from prayer or the Qur'an, it may be a spiritual test. Shaytaan uses this as an opportunity to drag you further away.

How to pass: Force yourself to maintain the basics of worship, even when your heart isn’t fully present. Allah loves consistency, even if it’s small.

3. Increased Anxiety or Depression

Emotional turmoil can be a form of divine test. Your brokenness might be the gateway to closeness with your Lord.

“Indeed, with hardship comes ease.”
(Surah Ash-Sharh 94:6)

How to pass: Make du’a frequently. Speak to Allah in your own words—He is always listening.

4. Delays in Marriage or Career

When life feels stagnant and your dreams are postponed, know that Allah’s timing is perfect.

How to pass: Replace complaints with trust. Say, “Hasbunallahu wa ni’mal wakeel” — “Allah is Sufficient for us, and He is the Best Disposer of affairs.”

5. You’re Surrounded by Sins and Temptations

Living in an environment full of haram is a test of your sincerity.

How to pass: Guard your gaze, your tongue, and your company. Surround yourself with reminders of the Hereafter.

6. You’re Tested Through People

Whether it's toxic family, betrayal by friends, or unjust treatment, people are often a means through which Allah tests your patience.

“And We made some of you as a trial for others—will you have patience?”
(Surah Al-Furqan 25:20)

How to pass: Don’t seek revenge. Seek Allah’s reward through patience and forgiveness.

7. You’re Being Criticized or Mocked for Your Faith

Being ridiculed for following Islam or wearing hijab is a clear test.

How to pass: Remain proud of your identity as a Muslim. Remember that the Prophet ﷺ and the Sahaba faced worse.

8. You’ve Lost a Loved One

Grief is one of the toughest tests. But it also carries immense reward when met with sabr.

“Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:156)

How to pass: Make du’a for the deceased and increase in good deeds on their behalf.

9. You’re Being Tested with Wealth or Fame

Tests aren’t only in hardship—luxury and success can also test your gratitude and humility.

How to pass: Share your blessings. Give regular charity and stay grounded in your deen.

10. You’re Being Pulled Between Dunya and Akhirah

When you find it hard to balance the world and the religion, it's a subtle but real test.

How to pass: Prioritize your akhirah. Remember: this world is temporary, but your choices are eternal.

Allah Tests Those He Loves

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“When Allah loves a servant, He tests him.”
(Tirmidhi, 2396)

Tests are not rejections—they are redirections. They are the polish that makes your soul shine.
